FAQ

Why use decimal coordinates?

Decimal coordinates are a way of expressing geographic locations using latitude and longitude in decimal form, rather than degrees, minutes, and seconds.
 • Latitude measures how far a place is from the equator, ranging from +90° (North Pole) to -90° (South Pole).
 • Longitude measures how far a place is from the Prime Meridian, ranging from +180° (east) to -180° (west).

For example, a location in decimal coordinates might look like 40.71280, -74.00600, representing New York City.
The numbers are easier to work with in digital systems, like Google Maps, for accurate positioning.
In degrees, minutes and seconds this exact same location would be 40°42'46.1"N , 74°00'21.6"W.

Why use 5 decimals for the coordinates?

Here's a breakdown of the precision for each decimal place:

 • 1st decimal place: 10 kilometers (~6.2 miles)
 • 2nd decimal place: 1 kilometer (~0.62 miles)
 • 3rd decimal place: 100 meters (~328 feet)
 • 4th decimal place: 10 meters (~32.8 feet)
 • 5th decimal place: 1 meter (~3.3 feet)

So, with 5 decimal places, you can pinpoint a location with an accuracy of about 1 meter.

How many sacred locations are associated with my birthdate?

Any valid pair of coordinates, expressed with exactly five digits after the decimal point, corresponds to a sacred location.
For example, for the date 2000-10-14, the digits that follow in Pi are 20001014968665455220339....
From these digits, we can derive the following possible coordinates:

As illustrated, including a negative sign for the latitude produces a mirrored location on the opposite side of the equator (up/down), while a negative sign for the longitude results in a mirrored location on the other side of the Greenwich Meridian (left/right).

Depending on the date of birth, some people find only 8 sacred locations (for example, someone born on October 14, 2000), while others may uncover up to 52 sacred locations (such as someone born on July 10, 2006).

All of my sacred locations are inaccessible!

Is that so? What a pity!
But don't worry, if you're eager to discover more sacred locations related to your birthdate, there's still hope. The digits of your birthdate likely appear multiple times within the first 1 billion digits of Pi. Try exploring the sacred locations tied to the second or even third occurrence of your birthday in Pi! For example, the date 1971-03-01 appears 26 times!

Should I embark on a journey to my sacred location?

Many sacred locations are situated in the ocean, near the poles, or in other areas that are difficult to access or even dangerous to reach. Some might fall on private property or in restricted zones. It's important to use common sense. Only pursue a journey to one of your sacred locations if it's safe and permissible to do so!

If it's safe and you're able to go, absolutely take the plunge! These locations are often off the beaten path, and the journey itself could turn into an unforgettable adventure. You'll discover parts of the world you may never have considered visiting, and, in doing so, you might uncover something new about yourself. That's the true essence of what makes it your sacred location.
